College courses for those who have lost confidence

We have discovered the 'CHOICES' programme at Newbury College. It is ideal for helping survivors who have lost confidence and their job, or who have a job and have not yet been able to return to work.

There is also a shorter pre-CHOICES programme in a local cafe, the Eight Bells. The course is part-time and the programme is very flexible to meet different needs. There is help with using computers, help for literacy and numeracy, art and design programmes and positive development to help re-build confidence.

Group support is essential part of the course. Participants come from many walks of life and educational backgrounds - there are graduates and some who dropped off the educational ladder long ago. Call Sue Ballard for more information on 01635 845338.

Our member who was so scared of anywhere that reminded her of school that she was in tears when I phoned for information got through the hurdle of the first visit, then the first week and is now blossoming and has negotiated a part-time return to work so she can keep attending college for the next year. Does anyone know of similar programmes in other places?
