Dedication Of The 'Stan Martin' Engine

According to a report in the Exeter local paper, the Express and Echo, (13th June) there will be a special dedication ceremony on 25th June at Exeter St David's station of an engine to be named after Stan Martin, driver of the train who was killed in the accident.

The article says "An interim report from the Health and Safety Executive praises Mr Martin's quick actions in aplying the brakes and shutting down the electricity to prevent fires, which lessened the impact of the collision and saved lives".

Our contact adds "Although this may not be much comfort to those who lost loved ones, it certainly makes me feel very grateful to Mr Martin - one of the things which was so frightening at the time was the fear that the train would catch fire."
