The Impact of a Train Crash

One survivor sent this vivid account of how emtions can be reactivated long after the crash by poignant reminders.

Have other people also avoided trains? I can't even see them pass by without feeling bad - or watch them on TV. Early in the year there was a documentary of the box - "When the train crashes" - or some-such title.

I made myself watch it - it majored on the German and USA's crashes - although briefly touched the Upton one. It just reduced me to a total heap...... perhaps not such a good idea!

I also (on a visit to Reading) made myself go and stand on platform four as trains came and went. Tears rolled down my eyes - I felt pyhsically sick - what other passengers must have thought - I hid as the first trains came; watched
the driver - went to where we got on - the exact place - again carriage"E" - people were having a good time - others just settling-in - I'm glad I did it - haven't been able to since - had a chat with the conductor - sorrry - train manager - and told him what I was doing. He looked me straight in the eye - no avoidance nor disbelief - and congratulated me for getting this far. Only a few words - but cut to the quick.
